    Family-Based Immigration Process Guide: 2025 Updates

    Types of Family-Based Immigration

    Immediate Relatives (No Numerical Limits)

  1. Spouses of U.S. citizens
  2. Unmarried children under 21 of U.S. citizens
  3. Parents of U.S. citizens (if citizen is 21 or older)
  4. Family Preference Categories (Subject to Annual Limits)

  5. F1: Unmarried adult children of U.S. citizens
  6. F2A: Spouses and unmarried children under 21 of permanent residents
  7. F2B: Unmarried adult children of permanent residents
  8. F3: Married children of U.S. citizens
  9. F4: Siblings of adult U.S. citizens
  10. The Petition Process (Form I-130)

    Step 1: File the Petition

  14. Wait for USCIS approval (processing times vary)
  15. Step 2: Wait for Priority Date

  19. Step 3: Consular Processing or Adjustment of Status

    For applicants outside the U.S., complete DS-260 online application, attend medical examination, gather required documents, attend consular interview, and receive immigrant visa if approved.

    For applicants in the U.S., file Form I-485 when priority date is current, attend biometrics appointment, prepare for adjustment interview, and receive green card if approved.
